Curtain Tapes
Workroom-grade curtain tapes
Pencil, pinch, Singapore, ripplefold, wave, all from one line.
You know the callback. A curtain looks perfect at handover, then the pleats sag after the first clean. The client blames you.
New Way curtain tapes are heat-set and pre-shrunk. The header keeps its shape through wash and dry-clean cycles, matched to your hooks and the tracks you fit.
From pencil and pinch to Singapore pleat, ripplefold, and wave, with sheer and lead-weight tapes and an FR variant in the same line. One trade partner for the whole curtain stack.

Pleats that survive the first clean
The failure that costs dealers most: a curtain looks perfect at handover, then comes back from its first clean with the pleats sagging. New Way tape is heat-set and pre-shrunk, so the header holds through repeated cleaning. The reputation you earned on that job stays intact.

Heat-set construction: no first-clean collapse
Starched cotton tapes lose stiffness in the dry-clean solvent, so the pleats drop within a cycle or two. New Way tape is heat-set polyester, with residual shrinkage documented below 1% after a standard wash, against 3% or more for unset cotton.
Three pull cords: an even header across the run
Pencil-pleat tape carries three braided polyester pull cords as standard, not two. The third cord gives a controlled, even gather across panel widths above 1.5 m, so long runs do not finish wavy at the top.
The cords are warp-knitted to resist fraying when cut, and the termination is reinforced, so your team can knot them without pre-stitching. Smocked and honeycomb tapes step up to four or more cords for the lattice.
Every header your clients ask for
Your clients ask for pencil pleat one week, a motorised wave track the next. Instead of splicing three suppliers, New Way carries the whole heading-tape range in one line. One order covers the curtain stack, top to hem.

Everyday tailored headers: pencil and pinch
Pencil-pleat tape (75 mm default) and pinch or French-pleat tape (2-prong, 3-prong, and 4-prong pleater) are your daily-use workhorses. Pencil pleat gives the soft gathered header for mid-weight cottons and linens at 2.0 to 2.5 times fullness.
Pinch pleat engages a matched pleater hook for the tailored French header on heavy lined and interlined drapes. Between them, you can fabricate the bulk of residential curtain work from one tape family.
High-end residential: Singapore and goblet
Singapore double-pleat tape produces the two-finger contemporary header specified across Malaysian and Singaporean high-end homes, with less bulk than a triple pleat at around 2.0 times fullness.
Goblet-pleat tape (120 to 150 mm) gives the formal, rounded stationary header for heavy interlined drapery. Both let you offer the high-end looks affluent clients ask for, without changing supplier.
Motorised tracks: ripplefold tape
Snap-on ripplefold tape let you fabricate for the motorised drapery your clients now expect. Ripplefold snaps to the Lutron Sivoia and Palladiom carrier convention, and wave engages the Silent Gliss glider at its loop pitch.
The fullness is set by the carrier on the track, so you match the tape to the system and the drape falls in even S-folds. Same fabrication method as a hand-drawn curtain, no new procedure to learn.
Matched to your hooks and tracks
The most common workroom failure is a spec mismatch: wrong pocket pitch for the hook, wrong snap pitch for the track. New Way documents pocket pitch, snap pitch, and fullness per SKU, matched to our own hook line and to the tracks you fit. You spec it once and fabricate without trial and error.

Pocket pitch matched to New Way hooks
Pencil and pinch tapes are pocketed to the New Way Standard Curtain Hooks line: pin-on, long-neck, short-neck, non-tilting, and the 3-prong and 4-prong pleater hooks.
Mismatched pocket pitch against the hook prong span is the most common workroom failure, and matching tape and hook from the same line removes it at the spec stage. One trade partner, one matched system.
Snap pitch matched to motorised tracks
Snap-on are specified to the carrier pitch of the major motorised systems: 108 mm for Lutron Sivoia QS and Palladiom, 60 mm and 80 mm for Silent Gliss Wave, with named pitches for Forest, Goelst, Somfy Glydea, Aqara, and Kepta.
Confirm the track family at order, and the tape ships matched. The drape falls in even waves, and the motor stays inside its torque budget.

Complete technical specifications for curtain tapes
What are New Way curtain tapes made from, and why does it matter?
New Way curtain tapes are woven from heat-set polyester, with monofilament-polyester yarn on the sheer and reinforced variants and an optional polyester and polypropylene blend for cost-sensitive runs. The pockets are woven into the structure, not printed or heat-bonded, so they do not stretch open under curtain weight.
Curtain workrooms fabricating tailored and lined drapery that has to keep its header shape through years of cleaning.
Woven polyester body
The default tape is 100% woven polyester, with an optional polyester and polypropylene blend for cost-sensitive jobs. Polyester gives the dimensional stability cotton and polypropylene tapes lack in humid Malaysian and Singaporean rooms.
Monofilament reinforcement
Sheer and reinforced variants use monofilament-polyester yarn, so the tape sits transparent behind voile and resists pocket deformation under load.
Heat-set and pre-shrunk as standard
New Way Outdoor Blinds feature solution-dyed polyester and PVC-coated fiberglass meshes (available in 1-10% openness ratings) that maintain color accuracy and UV protection 60% longer than screen-printed fabrics. Testing shows solution-dyed materials retain 90% of original appearance after 5 years of direct equatorial sun exposure, compared to 60% retention for dye-printed alternatives.
How do New Way curtain tapes hold their pleats after cleaning?
New Way heading tape holds its pleats because it is heat-set polyester with residual shrinkage documented below 1% after a standard wash, and the reinforced variants carry monofilament yarn that keeps heavy headers upright through repeated wash and dry-clean cycles.
Curtain dealers who get the callback when a header sags after its first clean and the client blames the workroom.
Residual shrinkage below 1%
Heat-set polyester moves less than 1% in a domestic wash, where unset cotton can move 3% or more, enough to collapse pleats on a fitted curtain. The spec sheet recommends a wash-test on a sample length before fabrication.
Reinforced headers on heavy work
On heavy lined and interlined drapes, the monofilament-reinforced variant holds the header upright where unreinforced tape deforms within a cycle or two.
Three pull cords for an even gather
The 75 mm pencil-pleat tape carries three braided polyester cords as standard, giving a controlled gather across panel widths above 1.5 m.
What tape types, widths, and fullness does the range cover?
The New Way line covers 12 heading-tape types from 25 mm to 150 mm wide, with fullness conventions from 1.5 to 3.5 times fabric width depending on the header style, shipped in dealer-friendly 50 m and 100 m rolls.
Workrooms standardising one documented tape stack across multiple installer teams.
Twelve tape types
Pencil, pinch and French pleat (2, 3, 4-prong), goblet, Singapore double, box, cartridge, smocked and honeycomb, hidden tab, sheer, lead-weight hem, snap-on ripplefold, and hook-and-loop wave.
Widths from 25 to 150 mm
75 mm is the default pencil pleat, 100 to 130 mm covers pinch and goblet, 107 to 145 mm covers ripplefold and wave, and 25 to 50 mm covers sheer.
Fullness by header
Pencil and triple pinch 2.0 to 2.5 times, Singapore 2.0 times, goblet 2.25 times, smocked 3.0 to 3.5 times, hidden tab 1.5 to 2.0 times. Documented per SKU as of 2026.
Which curtain tapes match motorised ripplefold and wave tracks?
New Way snap-on and hook-and-loop tapes are specified to the carrier pitch of the major motorised drapery tracks: 108 mm for Lutron Sivoia QS and Palladiom, 60 mm and 80 mm for Silent Gliss Wave, with named pitches for Forest, Goelst, Somfy Glydea, Aqara, and Kepta.
Dealers fabricating motorised drapery who cannot afford a track that stalls or waves unevenly on handover.
Lutron ripplefold, 108 mm snap pitch.
Snap-on tape matches the Lutron Sivoia QS and Palladiom carrier convention, and ships in 80%, 100%, and 120% fullness by changing the snap stud interval. Confirm the Vela carrier pitch against the Lutron drapery workroom guide.
Friction budget
The tape keeps the gathered fabric inside fullness spec so the motor stays within its torque limit. Test motor performance with the actual fabric installed.
Multi-Zone Control: Grouping Multiple Blinds
New Way Outdoor Blinds can be programmed to operate in synchronized groups—for example, all east-facing blinds lower together in the morning, or all perimeter blinds close for privacy in the evening. Group control is particularly valuable for multi-balcony apartments or commercial spaces where managing 6+ individual blinds manually becomes impractical.
Do New Way curtain tapes meet fire-safety standards for hospitality and healthcare?
New Way offers an FR heading-tape variant certified to BS 5867 Part 2 (Type B and Type C) and NFPA 701, required whenever the full curtain assembly, not just the fabric, is tested for compliance.
Dealers on hotel, hospital, and Class A commercial projects where the assembly is audited and a non-compliant tape fails the whole curtain.
BS 5867 Part 2, Type B and Type C.
Type B covers hotel and general contract work; Type C adds a 50-wash-cycle requirement for hospital, healthcare, and marine drapery. Certified to both as of 2026.
NFPA 701.
The FR variant also meets NFPA 701 small-scale and large-scale flame tests where specified.
Serviceability: Replaceable Components vs. Full Replacement
New Way Outdoor Blinds feature replaceable fabric rolls and serviceable hardware (motors, side channel guides), which reduces lifetime costs by approximately 60% compared to sealed-unit systems requiring complete replacement. Fabric replacement after 8-12 years typically costs 40-50% of new system price, extending total system life to 15-20 years with proper component maintenance.
Assembly-level compliance.
A compliant fabric on a non-compliant heading tape fails the assembly test, so the FR tape must be written into the build sheet from the start.

Frequently Asked Questions
Pre-Sales
What is the difference between pencil pleat and pinch pleat tape?
New Way pencil pleat tape gathers fabric into evenly spaced narrow folds using two or three pull cords, in widths from 50 to 150 mm, with a standard pin hook at 2.0 to 2.5 times fullness. Pinch pleat tape forms grouped multi-finger pleats (2-prong, 3-prong, or 4-prong) at 100 to 130 mm width, engages a matched pleater hook, and produces the tailored French header used in high-end residential and hospitality work. Pencil pleat suits everyday tailored curtains, while pinch pleat reads as the more formal header. Both ship from the same New Way line.
Specifications
What fullness should I plan for each tape type?
New Way documents a fullness convention for every tape type, so the workroom cuts to the right width the first time. Pencil pleat and triple pinch pleat both sit at 2.0 to 2.5 times fabric width, goblet pleat at 2.25 times, Singapore double pleat and box pleat at 2.0 times, and cartridge pleat at 1.8 to 2.2 times. Smocked and honeycomb tapes need the most fabric at 3.0 to 3.5 times for the lattice effect, while hidden tab sits lowest at 1.5 to 2.0 times. For snap-on ripplefold, the fullness is set by the carrier pitch on the track, typically 1.6 to 2.2 times. Every value is on the per-SKU spec sheet.
Materials
Will the heading tape shrink after the first wash or dry-clean?
New Way heading tape is heat-set polyester with documented residual shrinkage below 1% after a standard domestic wash, so it does not pull the header out of shape the way unset cotton can. Cotton and poly-cotton tapes that are not pre-shrunk can move 3% or more, which is enough to collapse pleats on a fitted curtain. Pre-shrinking is the default treatment on every New Way SKU. For any curtain that will be cleaned regularly, the spec sheet recommends a wash-test on a sample length before fabrication. This holds for both wash and dry-clean cycles.
What tape do I need for a sheer or voile curtain?
For a sheer or voile curtain, New Way sheer monofilament tape (25 to 50 mm) is the right choice, because it sits transparent behind the fabric instead of showing as an opaque band. Pair it with a small pin hook and a lead-weight hem tape rated 22 to 50 g/m at the bottom, which stops the sheer from billowing under an air-conditioner draft, the most common sheer failure in Malaysian and Singaporean rooms. The monofilament tape is also UV-stabilised, so it holds its structure past 24 months of direct tropical sun. Both the sheer tape and the lead-weight hem tape come from the same New Way line.
Performance
Why did the pleats collapse after the first dry-clean?
Pleat collapse after a first dry-clean almost always traces to the heading tape, not the fabric. Three causes account for nearly every case: a starched-cotton tape losing its stiffening agent in the solvent, a non-heat-set tape shrinking unevenly across the panel width, or a tape under-specified for the fabric weight, such as pencil pleat tape on a heavily lined drape. New Way heat-set polyester tape addresses the first two, with residual shrinkage documented below 1%, and the monofilament-reinforced variant addresses the third by holding heavy headers upright. The fix is to specify a heat-set tape and step up to pinch or goblet tape on heavy lined work.
Smart Integration
Which curtain tape works with Lutron Sivoia QS, Palladiom, or Vela tracks?
For Lutron Sivoia QS and Palladiom ripplefold tracks, New Way snap-on tape with a 108 mm snap pitch matches the Lutron carrier convention, and the same tape ships in 80%, 100%, and 120% fullness by changing the snap stud interval. Do not use pinch pleat tape on a ripplefold-configured Lutron track, because the carrier interface is different. For the Lutron Vela drapery track, confirm the exact carrier pitch against the Lutron drapery workroom guide for the project track length before ordering. Matching the snap pitch to the carrier keeps the drape falling in even S-folds and keeps the motor inside its torque budget.
Which tape goes with the Silent Gliss Wave system?
The Silent Gliss Wave system uses a New Way hook-and-loop heading tape with reinforced loops spaced at 60 mm or 80 mm to engage the Wave glider. The exact loop pitch is set by the glider cord pitch on the project track, so verify the specific Wave product family in the Silent Gliss Workroom Guide before ordering. New Way also supplies comparable hook-and-loop variants for Forest and Goelst Wave systems, and ripplefold or pinch carrier options for Somfy Glydea. Matching the loop pitch to the glider produces the even, uniform wave the system is specified for. Confirm the track family at order and the tape ships matched.
Safety
Does the heading tape need to be flame-retardant for hotel and hospital work?
Yes, when the full curtain assembly is being certified, the heading tape itself must be flame-retardant, not just the fabric. New Way offers an FR tape variant certified to BS 5867 Part 2 (Type B for hotels, Type C for the 50-wash-cycle hospital and marine requirement) and to NFPA 701. A compliant fabric on a non-compliant tape fails the assembly test, which is the common audit failure on hospitality and healthcare projects. The FR variant has to be written into the build sheet at order stage, because substituting it late in the project is difficult. For standard residential work where the assembly is not certified, the standard heat-set tape is appropriate.
