Installation walk-through for 045450

Lutron document 045450 gives twelve steps, in the document's order, after the tools and fixings it lists.

The clearance, the check and the warning under a step are the document's own.

Tools

  • Tape measure
  • Level
  • Wire cutter/stripper
  • Power drill
  • 3/16 in (5 mm) drill bit
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver

Fixings

  • Mounting screws (provided; quantity varies with blind size)
  • Expansion anchors or toggle bolts, not included, for other surfaces
  • Spacer blocks for an above-trim mount (not included)
  • 4-pin terminal block (provided)
  1. Plan the top back cover

Hold the cover up centered on the window and pencil the screw positions. Place a screw pair 2 to 5 in (51 to 127 mm) in from each end, into wall studs or solid trim.

Blinds over 48 in (1219 mm) take two more pairs at roughly equal spacing.

Clearance: 2 to 5 in (51 to 127 mm) from each end

Check: The cover will sit level, centered on and parallel to the opening

  2. Pre-drill and mount the cover

Drill the cover at the marks and fasten it. An inside mount centers the cover in the opening.

On trim, set the cover's top edge at the point the window height was measured from.

Warning: An above-trim mount needs spacer blocks (not included) so the blind clears the trim

  3. Fit the RF receiver (optional)

Mount the receiver per its own instructions, clear of the blind. Clip the antenna to hang below the bottom edge of the top back cover.

  4. Fit the end brackets

Face the control buttons down and route the cables up through the notch. Push the drive end into the bracket's square receiver and tighten the bracket screw.

Fit the other end bracket, then loosen both front-hook retaining screws.

    Check: Control buttons face downward

  5. Hang the blind

Hook the end brackets onto the top back cover. Center the blind on the window and tighten the retaining screw on each front hook.

  6. Wire the blind

Strip 2 in (51 mm) of jacket and 1/4 in (6 mm) per wire and land the wires on the 4-pin terminal block. Connect the blind EDU connector and any RF receiver connector.

Clearance: 1/16 in (2 mm) of bare conductor at the terminal

Check: Cables are secured clear of moving parts

Warning: Shock hazard: lock the supply breaker off or remove the fuse first

  7. Check and set the limits

Check the factory limits straight after installation. To reset one, tap its limit button and drive the blind with the arrows.

For the lower limit, run down to the fully open View position. Hold the limit button until the green LED flashes; setting the lower limit also teaches the drive the Privacy position.

Check: Fully raised and fully lowered positions match the opening

Warning: If the bottom bar meets the sill before the vanes open fully, raise the bracket and reset the lower limit

  8. Adjust the Privacy position (optional)

Tap the arrows to the wanted Privacy position. Hold Lower Limit until the green LED flashes.

Hold it a second time until the LED flashes for about 10 seconds and goes out.

  9. Level and align (optional)

Raise the blind fully for access, then turn each bracket's vertical screw counterclockwise to raise or clockwise to lower. Match adjacent blinds so their vanes line up.

Clearance: ±1/4 in (6 mm) per bracket

  10. Fit the fascia (optional)

Press an end cap onto each end of the fascia, tabs in its channels. Hang the fascia on the end brackets' top front hooks and press its lower half onto the bottom hooks.

Warning: On inside mounts the drive-side end cap may need notching for the wiring

  11. Assign wireless controls

On each blind, hold Upper Limit until the green LED stays on and tap the button on the drive. Then hold the control's Bottom button for 6 seconds until the blinds wiggle once.

    Check: Each blind wiggles once

  12. Assign wired and IR controls

Hold Open and Close for 5 seconds to enter programming mode. Tap Open to pick a blind and Lower to assign it.

Hold Open and Close for 5 seconds again to exit.

Check: The assigned blind moves to its lower limit

Requirements Lutron states in 045450

What the guide requires for a Sivoia QS shade before and during installation:

Tools
Tape measure, level, wire cutter and stripper, power drill with a 3/16 in (5 mm) bit, #2 Phillips screwdriver, small flat-blade screwdriver
In the box
  • Horizontal sheer blind (do not unroll)
  • Top back cover
  • 4-pin terminal block
  • Mounting screws (quantity varies with blind size)
  • Optional fabric-wrapped fascia with end caps
  • Local and national electrical codes
  • Clearance between the moving blind and window hardware, cranks, levers, drapery
Top back cover screws
  • Screw pair 2 to 5 in (51 to 127 mm) in from each end
  • Into wall studs or solid trim
  • Blinds wider than 48 in (1219 mm): two more pairs at equal spacing
  • Other surfaces: expansion anchors or toggle bolts (not included)
  • Above-trim mounts: spacer blocks (not included)
Hanging the blind
Drive end in with the control buttons facing down and the cables routed up through the notch. End brackets hang on the hooks of the top back cover, then each front hook's retaining screw is tightened.
RF receiver (optional)
Mounted per its own instructions where it will not obstruct the blind. The antenna hangs below the top back cover's bottom edge, and the receiver plugs into the blind's RF connector.
Wiring
  • Strip 2 in (51 mm) of jacket and 1/4 in (6 mm) of insulation
  • Leave 1/16 in (2 mm) of bare conductor at the 4-pin terminal block
  • Terminals: Common, 24 V, MUX and MUX
  • Terminals 3 and 4 serve wired control only
  • Lock the supply breaker off before wiring
Lower limit positions
Privacy position (vanes closed) and View position (vanes fully open, the lower limit) at the bottom of travel. The drive learns the Privacy position when the lower limit is set, and Privacy can be adjusted separately.
Level adjustment
Each bracket's vertical screw raises or lowers the blind by 1/4 in (6 mm) for leveling and vane alignment with adjacent blinds
Fabric-wrapped fascia (optional)
End caps press onto each end. The fascia hangs on the end brackets' top front hooks and presses in at the bottom.
Fascia end cap notch
On inside mounts the drive-side end cap may need notching for wiring
Troubleshooting signals
  • Red LED blinking slowly four times: maximum run-time reached, wait 20 minutes
  • Steady red: no communication, check wiring
  • Fast blue: too little power or an AC supply
  • Use an approved 24 V DC supply such as the QSPS-P1-10-60
Factory reset
Restoring factory defaults un-assigns the blind from all wireless controls but leaves the open and lower limits as they are
