Installation walk-through for 085762
Lutron document 085762 gives 16 steps, in the document's order, after the tools and fixings it lists.
The clearance, the check and the warning under a step are the document's own.
Tools
- Flat-blade screwdriver
- Small screwdriver or stylus for the shade button
- Pico wireless control
Fixings
- Eight end bracket fasteners, four provided per bracket, to suit the board
- Lift ring screws, in the WIN-RM-SMRNG-5PK lift ring 5-pack
- Workroom wood board: 2.50 in (64 mm) deep minimum, 3.0 in (76 mm) recommended
Attach the kit to the board
Fasten the kit tube-down through its end brackets to the wood board with eight fasteners, four provided per bracket. Choose a fastener type and length that suit the board.
Clearance: Board at least 2.50 in (64 mm) deep, 3.0 in (76 mm) recommended, the kit at least 1.0 in (25.4 mm) from each end. Kit at least 0.125 in (3 mm) from the valance-side edge and no more than 0.125 in (3 mm) from the fabric-drop-side edge.
Tie each lift cord to a lift ring
Feed the cord end through a round hole from the ring's front and tie a knot at the back. Lutron recommends a figure-8 knot.
Pull the spare cord back through and slip it into the V-notch. Pull the knot tight and tuck it into the back of the ring against the notch.
Clearance: At least 1/2 in (13 mm) of cord beyond the knot
Warning: Lift rings serve shades up to 80 in (2032 mm) wide; wider shades need C-clips from others that fit 1.5 in (38 mm) tubes.
Fit the lift rings on the tube
Twist the flexible ring open and slip one end over the tube and the other under it. Let it wrap round.
Slide each ring to a lift cord position, matching the number and spacing of cords on the panel. Secure it with a lift ring screw through the screw boss.
Check: Every ring lines up with a lift cord.
Warning: Route the lift cords onto and over the tube only; never under it.
Work out the spring module count
Add the fabric and lining weights to get the total panel weight. Round the width and height down to the nearest foot.
Read the total modules from the sheer (15 oz/yd²), privacy lining (25 oz/yd²) or blackout lining (35 oz/yd²) table. One module is already fitted, and the count may change once the real panel is weighed.
Check: The panel size falls outside the gray area of the table.
Add a spring module
Loosen the two retention plate screws without removing them and slide the plate away from the fitted modules.
Peel off the yellow label and press the new module into the housing in line with the others. The first click seats it; slide it along until it interlocks with a second click.
Hold it, turn the locking pin handle and pull the pin out. Slide the plate back to the last module and retighten both screws.
Check: Each new module has locked in with two clicks.
Warning: The system lock must be engaged and the shade at its lowest limit.
Remove a spring module
Loosen the two retention plate screws and slide the plate away. Fit a locking pin on the first module by matching its hex hole to the hex shaft.
Turn the pin into the housing opening and separate the first and second modules with a flat-blade screwdriver. Squeeze the top tabs, lift the module out, slide the plate back and retighten the screws.
Warning: The system lock must be engaged and the shade at its lower limit.
Install the batteries
Load fresh 1.5 V D-cell alkaline batteries at the open end of the holder. Follow the quantity and orientation marked on it.
Warning: Do not mix battery brands, types or ages.
Fit the housing cover
Decide which side of the housing will face the window. Line up the hinge side of the cover with the rolled edge on that side.
Slide the cover along until it is fully engaged between the endcaps. Swing the latch side in and press it inside the housing edge to close.
Check: Hinge on the window side, latch on the room side, so the batteries can be reached later
Hang the shade
Hang the shade in a test location with room for full travel, or in its own window. Use brackets or fasteners able to carry the operating load.
Leave the fabric fully lowered, the lift cords without slack and the housing cover open.
Check: The shade is securely mounted.
Remove the system lock
At the spring module end, find the locking clip against the inside of the housing endcap by its flag. Pull the clip off its stop, rotate it away from the stop and pull it clear of the shade.
Warning: Keep the flag on the clip and refit the lock whenever the shade is adjusted, taken down, transported or stored.
Find the shade button
The shade button sits behind an access opening in the end bracket at the end opposite the spring modules. Press it with a small screwdriver or stylus; its LED gives feedback during programming and testing.
Assign a Pico wireless control
Tap the shade button so the LED lights green, then press and hold Close on the Pico. A rapid green flash confirms the assignment.
Check: The LED flashes green rapidly.
Set the lower limit, only if needed
The shade ships at its lower limit. To change it, tap the shade button and hold Open and Raise together until the LED flashes and stays on.
Use Raise and Lower to place the shade, then hold Close until the LED flashes green rapidly.
Warning: Taking the shade below the factory lower limit can damage it. A shade that stalls going down, or rises from the lower limit by itself, needs a spring removed.
Set the upper limit
Tap the shade button and hold Open and Raise together until the LED flashes and stays on. Use Raise and Lower to place the shade, then hold Open until the LED flashes green rapidly.
Warning: A shade that stalls going up, or will not hold the chosen upper position, needs another spring. Move it to the lower limit first.
Run the spring balance validation test
With both limits set and the travel clear, tap the shade button and hold Open and Raise together. Keep the shade button pressed for 3 seconds and release it once the LED gives a rapid green flash.
The shade drops to its lower limit if needed, raises and lowers once, then shows the result on the LED.
Check: Green 3 s on and 1 s off means balanced. A green or red failure pattern means add or remove one module and repeat the test.
Warning: Limits must be set before the test.
Restore factory default, if needed
Tap the shade button three times quickly and hold after the third tap until the LED blinks green rapidly. At once tap three more times: the LED blinks green rapidly, then red and green three times, then goes out.
Check: Assigned controls are cleared; the upper and lower limits stay as set.
