Installation walk-through for 085346

Lutron document 085346 gives 14 steps, in the document's order, after the tools and fixings it lists.

The clearance, the check and the warning under a step are the document's own.

Tools

  • Screwdriver
  • Bubble level

Fixings

  • (2) bracket mounting screws per bracket, Roller 64 (provided)
  • (3) bracket mounting screws per bracket, Roller 100 and Roller 150 (provided)
  • (2) coarse-thread EDU mounting screws, Roller 100 and 150 (provided)
  • (2) fine-thread idler mounting screws, Roller 100 and 150 (provided)
  • Cable tie and cable tie anchor (provided)
  • Fasteners suited to the mounting surface, chosen by the installer
  • Wall-mounted headrail L brackets: 300 lbs (136.1 kg), Roller 64
  • Wall-mounted headrail L brackets: 450 lbs (204.1 kg), Roller 100 and 150
  • Hook strip WIN-RM-HOOK-50 for the headbox, sold separately
  1. Identify the lift system

Direct lift runs the lift cords from the top lift rings straight onto the tube, with no eye screws. Indirect lift passes them through an eye screw or guide on the headrail first.

Decide which applies. Direct lift continues in section 2 on page 4, indirect lift in section 3 on page 6.

  2. Make a first choice from the fabric graph

Read fabric weight against fabric size on Figure 2a for direct lift or Figure 3a for indirect lift. The graph picks the Roller 64, Roller 100 or Roller 150.

A Roller 64 choice moves to the Roller 100 when the bracket-to-bracket width is over 109.5 in (2781 mm).

Clearance: 109.5 in (2781 mm) maximum bracket-to-bracket width for the Roller 64

  3. Measure H and V

H is the horizontal distance from the tube center to the first lift ring eye or screw eye. V is the vertical distance from the headrail to the point where the cord touches that ring or screw eye.

  4. Confirm the drive against combined lift weight

Look up the maximum allowable combined lift weight for the measured H and V in the chosen drive's table. Combined weight counts everything the drive lifts: lift rings, cords, bands, battens and hembar.

A load above the table moves the Roller 64 up to the Roller 100, and the 100 to the 150. Above the Roller 150 table the load must come down.

Check: The combined lift weight sits within the table value for the measured H and V.

  5. Roller 64 without headbox: mount the brackets

Set the brackets on the underside of the headrail, bracket-to-bracket width apart, and fix each with the two screws provided.

Clearance: At least 0.125 in (3 mm) from each headrail end to the bracket

Warning: Wall mounting of the shade brackets is not recommended; a wall-mounted headrail needs L brackets rated for 300 lbs (136.1 kg).

  6. Roller 64: fit the idler end

Hook the idler mounting yoke over and under the mounting tabs on the bracket, then tighten the securing screw.

  7. Roller 64: fit the drive end

Turn the EDU mounting yoke so the drive control buttons face down. Lead the EDU cables through one of the side notches.

Push the tube against the spring-loaded idler for clearance. Seat the drive yoke over and under the bracket tabs and tighten the securing screw.

Check: The drive control buttons face downward.

  8. Headbox: fit the hook strip and endcaps

Cut the hook strip to width and slide it into the headbox slot. Press the endcaps into both ends of the headbox, if used.

  9. Headbox: mount the headbox and brackets

Place the brackets bracket-to-bracket width apart on the underside of the headbox for a ceiling mount. For a wall or face mount, place them on its inner back face.

Fix each bracket through the headbox into the substrate with the two screws provided, pre-drilling the headbox as Lutron recommends. The idler end and drive end then go in as for the headrail mount.

Warning: Blocking or other structural material must support 300 lbs (136.1 kg).

  10. Roller 100 and 150: mount the brackets

Set the brackets on the underside of the headrail, bracket-to-bracket width apart, and fix each with the three screws provided.

Clearance: Bracket at least 0.125 in (3 mm) in from each headrail end

Warning: Wall mounting of the shade brackets is not recommended; a wall-mounted headrail needs L brackets rated for 450 lbs (204.1 kg).

  11. Roller 100 and 150: assemble the idler brackets

With the idler adjusting screw head pointing down, slide the idler-adjust bracket behind the screw and the idler tabs. Then slide the idler-support bracket over and under the adjusting screw.

Turn the adjusting screw with a screwdriver until the holes in both brackets line up.

Check: The mounting holes of the idler-adjust and idler-support brackets align.

  12. Roller 100 and 150: install the shade tube

Fix the drive end to its bracket with the two coarse-thread EDU mounting screws. Then fix the idler end with the two fine-thread idler mounting screws.

    Clearance: Torque 12 in-lb ±1 in-lb (1.36 N·m ±0.11 N·m) at the drive end; 17 in-lb ±1 in-lb (1.92 N·m ±0.11 N·m) at the idler end

  13. Roller 100 and 150: level the shade tube

Check the tube with a bubble level and correct it at the idler adjusting screw. Clockwise lowers the idler end of the tube, counter-clockwise raises it.

Check: The shade tube reads level on the bubble level.

  14. All kits: connect and secure the EDU cables

Wire the 4-pin terminal block as Lutron document 045520 directs and plug in the EDU connector. Hold the connectors to the headrail with the wire management bracket.

Fit a wireless receiver where used, following Lutron document 045515. Tie the cables to the headrail with the cable tie and anchor provided.

Check: The cables cannot reach the moving parts of the finished shade.

Warning: Secure the cables where they will not interfere with the shade as it moves.

How deep must the headrail be?

Lutron document 085346 gives a minimum headrail depth of 2.50 in (64 mm) for the Roller 64 kit.

  • Roller 100 and 150 kits: 4.50 in (114 mm)
  • 0.125 in (3 mm) clearance from each headrail end to the bracket

What must the mounting structure carry?

Lutron document 085346 requires blocking or other structural material, with fasteners chosen by the installer for the substrate.

  • Roller 64 kit: 300 lb (136.1 kg)
  • Roller 100 or Roller 150 kit: 450 lb (204.1 kg)

Which torque goes on the Roller 100 and Roller 150 shade screws?

Lutron document 085346 fixes the drive end with two coarse-thread EDU mounting screws at 12 in-lb ±1 in-lb (1.36 N·m ±0.11 N·m). The idler end takes two fine-thread idler mounting screws at 17 in-lb ±1 in-lb (1.92 N·m ±0.11 N·m).
