Installation walk-through for 0450015

Lutron document 0450015 gives 24 steps, in the document's order, after the tools and fixings it lists.

The clearance, the check and the warning under a step are the document's own.

Tools

  • 3/32 in (2.5 mm) slotted screwdriver
  • #1 Phillips screwdriver
  • Drill with 1/8 in (3.2 mm) bit
  • T20 Torx drive bit
  • 3/32 in (2.5 mm) Allen key
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Laser level (recommended)

Fixings

  • Mounting screws, 4 per bracket cleat, driven with the T20 Torx bit
  • Mid bracket screws, 2 per mid bracket
  • End bracket screws
  • T-nuts, 1 per mid bracket
  • Shims 1/8 in (3.175 mm) and 1/16 in (1.59 mm), 1 of each per bracket
  • Adapter rings, quantity varies with the track
  • Splice kit, spliced and tandem tracks: splice bar, splice ring assembly, splice screw
  • Surface fasteners, installer's choice, each bracket carrying 100 lbs (45.3 kg)
  1. Prepare to install

Check the tools and lay out the track, cleats and mid brackets. The end treatment is end brackets, finial end brackets or end caps.

Lay out the EDU adapter, fabric bracket, idler adapter (center-draw tracks), adapter rings, T-nuts, screws and shims. Pendants come loose and are not yet on the auxiliary carriers.

Read the important notes before drilling.

Check: Every bracket position has blocking or structure that can carry 100 lbs (45.3 kg)

Warning: Not for a pocket or recess; a system over 48 in (1219 mm) takes two installers

  2. Prepare the brackets

Loosen the set screw under each mid and end bracket with the 3/32 in (2.5 mm) slotted screwdriver until the cleat slides out. Keep the bracket parts to hand for later.

If the track has end brackets, slide their covers off and set them aside.

Warning: Do not take the set screw all the way out

  3. Insert the T-nuts

Slide one T-nut into the track's rear channel for each mid bracket. Park each one roughly where its bracket will sit.

Clearance: Bracket to bracket no more than 48 in (1219 mm)

  4. Attach the mid brackets

Line each mid bracket up with a T-nut and fasten its screws loosely with the 3/32 in (2.5 mm) Allen key. Leave them loose so the bracket can still slide along the track to meet the cleats.

  5. Fit the end brackets or finial end brackets

Skip to step 6 if the track has end caps.

Line one bracket up with the track end and drive the end bracket screws with the drill and T20 bit.

Slide the cover on with the Lutron logo facing the floor, then do the same at the other end.

  6. Fit the end caps

Skip to step 7 if the track has end brackets or finial end brackets.

Fit one end cap at each end and lock its set screw with the 3/32 in (2.5 mm) Allen key.

  7. Install the EDU adapter

Line the rectangular profile of the EDU adapter up with the railbox and push the two together. Secure the adapter with the supplied screws and a #1 Phillips screwdriver.

  8. Attach the fabric bracket to the idler adapter

Skip to step 10 if the track is not a center draw.

Hook the fabric bracket onto the idler adapter and tighten its screw.

  9. Attach the idler adapter to the track

Drop an adapter ring over the idler adapter. Line the adapter up with the screw hole in the idler locking plate.

Use its slots to set the fabric bracket hooks level with the end of the track. Secure it to the locking plate with a #1 Phillips screwdriver.

Check: Fabric bracket hooks in line with the end of the track

  10. Insert the splice bar (spliced tracks only)

Skip to step 14 if the track is neither spliced nor tandem.

Push the splice bar into the track so its left etch line sits at the track end.

Lock the set screws with the 3/32 in (2.5 mm) Allen key.

  11. Insert the splice ring assembly

Slide the splice ring assembly over the splice bar and seat its alignment posts in the track's locating features. Slide the second track section on in the same way.

Fit the splice screw and tighten it with the Allen key until the two sections are held together.

    Check: Track sections securely joined

Warning: Do not overtighten the splice screw

  12. Attach a mid bracket at the splice

Fit a mid bracket directly at the splice.

Check: A mid bracket sits at every splice, which the guide requires for structural support

  13. Tandem track assembly

To join two tracks in a tandem installation, repeat steps 10 to 12 with the splice kit provided.

  14. Plan the bracket spacing

Set out the brackets for the chosen track configuration. Lutron draws three layouts.

With end brackets every bay is spacing A. With end caps the layout adds B at each end, and with finial end brackets C at each end.

    Clearance: A is 12 in to 48 in (305 mm to 1219 mm). B is 2 in to 6 in (51 mm to 152 mm), C 4 in (102 mm).

Warning: Bracket to bracket spacing must not exceed 48 in (1219 mm)

  15. Mark the screw locations

Mark every cleat's screw holes at a height that leaves the fabric 0.5 in to 1 in (13 mm to 25 mm) off the floor.

The bottom of the mounted cleats lines up with the bottom of the brackets and the installed track. Set out from that line; Lutron recommends a laser level.

Clearance: Cleats within 1/16 in (1.6 mm) of each other; fabric 0.5 in to 1 in (13 mm to 25 mm) above the floor

Warning: Each bracket must be fixed to blocking or other structural material with fasteners that let it carry 100 lbs (45.3 kg)

  16. Install the cleats

Drill 1/8 in (3.2 mm) pilot holes at the marks and drive four mounting screws per cleat with the T20 Torx drive. Check the cleats are level and aligned; shim behind a cleat where needed.

Clearance: Within 1/16 in (1.6 mm)

Check: Brackets level and aligned within 1/16 in (1.6 mm). If not, use the 1/16 in (1.6 mm) or 1/8 in (3.2 mm) shim supplied with each bracket.

  17. Hang the track

Lift the track to the cleats and slide the mid brackets along it to match the cleat positions. Hook the brackets over each cleat and swing the track down until every bracket is fully seated.

Tighten each bracket set screw with the 3/32 in (2.5 mm) slotted screwdriver until it is flush or just below the bracket face.

Check: Every bracket fully seated on its cleat before the set screws are tightened

  18. Secure the mid brackets

Lock the mid bracket screws with the 3/32 in (2.5 mm) Allen key.

  19. Attach the fabric bracket to the EDU

Fit the fabric bracket onto the EDU and route the cable assembly through the opening in the bracket.

  20. Attach the EDU to the track

Line the EDU mounting tabs up with the EDU adapter and push until the tabs are fully in. Rotate the EDU in the flange to the chosen orientation: slim for ripple fold and S-fold, wide for pinch pleat.

Line up the holes for the securing screw. Drive the securing screw through the fabric bracket into the EDU adapter with a #1 Phillips screwdriver.

Check: Wire harness not pinched; securing screw fitted and tightened before the drapery runs

Warning: The securing screw is what holds the EDU safely

  21. Attach the adapter ring

Place the adapter ring over the EDU adapter and turn it until it covers the screws.

  22. Hang pinch pleat fabric

Set the hooks 0.5 in (13 mm) below the top of the drape so the fabric rides under the track without rubbing.

Insertable auxiliary carriers come with the track. Push the top flap down and feed each one in through the channel opening.

Insert them only at the stationary ends nearest the drive or idler, equal numbers each end on a center draw. Fit a pendant to each carrier; an Allen key on the top flap releases a carrier.

Clearance: 0.5 in to 1 in (13 mm to 25 mm) from the bottom of the fabric panel to the floor

  23. Hang S-fold fabric

Set the hooks 0.25 in (6.4 mm) from the top of the drape. Lutron gives spacing options of 2.36 in (60 mm) and 3.15 in (80 mm).

Start at the master carrier and work toward the end of the track. Master carriers and fabric brackets each take three hooks.

Clearance: Panel bottom 0.5 in to 1 in (13 mm to 25 mm) above the floor

  24. Hang ripple fold fabric

Mount the track so its bottom edge sits 0.5 in (13 mm) plus the fabric panel height above the floor, adjusted for the actual panel.

The track takes Graber ripple fold snap tape in 80%, 100% or 120% fullness. Fabric brackets and master carriers each accept three male snaps, and every auxiliary carrier accepts a male snap.

On the extended overlap closure the right panel has one more auxiliary snap than the left. Its carrier snap spacing differs.

Clearance: Track bottom 0.5 in (13 mm) plus the fabric panel height above the floor
