Installation walk-through for 045984
Lutron document 045984 gives 13 steps, in the document's order, after the tools and fixings it lists.
The clearance, the check and the warning under a step are the document's own.
Tools
- Tape measure
- Small flat-blade screwdriver
- #1 Phillips screwdriver
- #2 Phillips screwdriver
- Power drill and drill bits
- Level
- Pliers
- 3/32 in hex key, included
- WIN-DREC-TOOL recessed drapery installation tool, recommended
Fixings
- Ceiling-mount cam locks, included; quantity varies with width
- #8 cam lock screws, not included, to suit the structure
- Shims for an uneven ceiling (not included)
- Recess-mount brackets and #8 x 1 1/2 in wood screws, included
- Recess-mount wood screws suit wooden members only
- 1/2 in (12.7 mm) track-mounting screw for a recessed mounting bracket, provided
- Pocket mounting screws (not provided by Lutron)
- 4-pin terminal block (provided)
Check the parts
Lay out the drapery track, the terminal block and the QSAC-EDU-D105-P drive with its end motor bracket. Add the cam locks for a ceiling-mount, or the recess-mount brackets and wood screws.
A dual system has an extra track and drive. The guide shows a single-track, center-draw system.
Warning: Risk of falling objects: fix the system securely as the mounting steps describe
Ceiling-mount: fasten the cam locks
Hold the track against the ceiling, parallel to the window or wall. Pencil a mark at each end.
Fit a cam lock within 8 in (200 mm) of each mark and the next 16 in (400 mm) further in. Space the rest 16 in to 24 in (406 mm to 610 mm) apart, 16 in (406 mm) where non-sheer panels stack back.
Use #8 screws suited to the structure, with shims where the ceiling is uneven.
Clearance: End cam lock within 8 in (200 mm); next 16 in (400 mm) in; others 16 in to 24 in (406 mm to 610 mm)
Check: All cam locks lie in one straight, level line
Ceiling-mount: lock the track in
Turn every cam lock lever to unlocked and lift the track against them. Starting at the center and working outward, turn each lever to locked until its tab bears on the track.
Check: Every tab is against the track before the drive goes in
Recess-mount: prepare the track
Skip to step 6 if the track is ceiling-mounted.
The track comes pre-drilled at 16 in (406 mm) centers. Slide a recess-mount bracket into the upper channel and line up its center hole with a track hole.
Drop a screw through both to hold them. Turn the bracket 90 degrees, tighten both set screws with the 3/32 in hex key, and remove the screw.
Repeat at every hole across the track.
Clearance: Holes at 16 in (406 mm)
Check: A bracket is locked at each pre-drilled hole
Warning: The structure must carry the track, drive and fabric together. The installer adds blocking where none exists.
Recess-mount: fix the track
Position the track and drive a 1 1/2 in wood screw through each hole and bracket into a structural member.
Inside a Lutron recessed pocket, use the 1/2 in (12.7 mm) track-mounting screw through the track and the recessed mounting bracket instead. The WIN-DREC-TOOL spaces the track evenly and guides the drill.
Clearance: Pocket at least 1 1/16 in (27 mm) deep and 2 1/4 in (57 mm) wide
Check: Pocket depth does not touch the fabric
Warning: The wood screws supplied suit wooden members only. Other structures need the installer's own fasteners.
Install the drive
Choose slim orientation, recommended for fold style drapery, or original orientation. Line the drive's mounting flange up with the rail box tabs and drive shafts.
Push it in until the tabs seat fully. Rotate the drive in the flange until the securing holes line up, keeping the harness free.
Fit the securing screw.
Check: Securing screw fitted and tight before the drapery is run
Warning: The securing screw is what holds the drive safely
Basic wiring, drive or RF receiver
Strip 2 in (51 mm) of jacket and 1/4 in (6 mm) from each wire.
Clamp the wires in the 4-pin block (Common, 24 V, MUX, MUX) with a small flat-blade screwdriver, leaving about 1/16 in (2 mm) bare. A wireless install leaves terminals 3 and 4 unused.
Plug the block into the drive; an RF receiver connects to the drive's RF connector. Secure the cables clear of moving parts; no power to the drive until the fabric is up.
Clearance: Strip 2 in (51 mm) jacket, 1/4 in (6 mm) per wire, 1/16 in (2 mm) exposed
Check: No power to the drive yet; system wiring per document 045314 and the receiver per document 045168
Warning: Shock hazard: breaker locked off or fuse removed before wiring the block
Hang the drapery panel
Size the panel so its top and the track bottom sit about 4 in (101 mm) above the window casing. Leave 1/2 in to 1 in (13 mm to 25 mm) above the floor.
Clip a pendant to each male auxiliary snap and hang it in its auxiliary carrier. Fasten the remaining snaps to the drive and idler snap brackets and the master carriers.
The snap layout follows the draw: one-way, or center draw with butt or overlap closure.
Clearance: 4 in (101 mm) above the casing; 1/2 in to 1 in (13 mm to 25 mm) above the floor
Check: Snap layout matches the chosen draw and closure
Power up and learn the limits
Push the drapery fully open by hand, then connect the power supply. The drive LED flashes red and green while it starts.
Tug the leading edge gently toward close and let go, and the drive takes the panel fully closed. Wait 5 seconds after it stops, tug toward open and let go, and it runs fully open.
Both limits are now learned at the fully open and fully closed positions.
Check: The drapery reaches both ends on its own after each tug
Warning: Once a custom limit is set, this automatic method is permanently unavailable
Set custom open and close limits (optional)
Tap the limit button so the green LED lights. Hold a directional button until the drapery reaches the position wanted.
Hold the limit button until the green LED flashes and goes out. Do the same for the other limit.
Check: Green LED flashes, then turns off, after each limit
Assign the drive to an RF control
Hold the drive button used to set the open limit until the green LED flashes and then stays on. Tap the directional button the figure marks, and the drive and receiver green LEDs flash twice, then every 4 seconds.
Put every drive meant for the same control into this mode. Hold the control's bottom button for 6 seconds until the drapes wiggle, which confirms the assignment and leaves assignment mode.
A drapery can belong to several controls.
Check: Each drape wiggles once when the control's bottom button has been held 6 seconds
Assign the drive to a wired control
Hold the keypad's Open and Close together for 5 seconds. Assigned drapes close and unassigned ones open.
Tap Open to pick a drive, which wiggles; Open again moves forward through the drives and Close moves back. Tap Lower to assign it, and it runs to its close limit.
Repeat for the other drives, then hold Open and Close for 5 seconds to leave programming mode.
Check: Each assigned drape closes to confirm
Restore factory defaults
A sequence of holds on the drive buttons, each released when the green LED flashes, restores factory settings. The last hold ends when the LED flashes a multicolor pattern.
The drive is then unassigned from every wireless control, while its open and lower limits stay as they were.
Check: Multicolor LED sequence seen
