Check the shade and plan the installation
The clerestory shade arrives with its mounting brackets already fitted. Confirm the opening is a ceiling or pocket mount, since a wall mount is a custom order.
Plan the position so the moving shade stays clear of window hardware, cranks, lock levers and drapery.

Warning: Risk of falling objects: the shade and its support must be secured as instructed
Choose the mounting hardware
Select fasteners that suit the mounting surface. Each shade bracket is designed for loads of up to 1000 lbs (453.6 kg), and the installed hardware must be able to carry comparable loads.
Check: Fasteners rated for the bracket load on this surface
Fasten the shade brackets
With at least three people, two hold the shade in position. The third drives the fasteners through the pre-installed brackets into the mounting surface.
Check: Both brackets fully fastened
Warning: Lutron strongly recommends a minimum of three persons for the lift
Check level and clearance
Check the shade is level and turn to the leveling step if it is not. Measure the gap from the shade to the substructure on every side.
Clearance: 1/4 in (6 mm) min. from shade to substructure, all sides
Check: Shade level; clearance met on all sides
Level the shade, if necessary
Lay a bubble level along the fabric roll. Turn the idler bracket adjusting screw clockwise to lower the idler end or counter-clockwise to raise it.
Clearance: Level adjust ± 0.25 in (6.3 mm) at the idler side

Connect power and communication
Connect the power and communication wiring as the instructions supplied with the shade describe. Lutron document 045943 itself gives no wiring detail.

Verify operation and dress the wiring
Run the shade and confirm it operates properly. Dress and secure all wiring so it cannot touch the fabric or get in the way of the moving shade.
