    About Sivoia QS

Lutron's Sivoia QS roller shades are low-voltage motorized roller shades, wired or wireless. The electronic drive unit (EDU) sits inside the shade assembly.

    • The drive tracks the shade's position and stores presets
    • QS Wired: power and communication on one 4-wire cable (085705, 086112)
    • QS Wireless: 2-wire power; Pico, 4-Group remote or QS Wireless keypads
    • Wired systems: Athena, HomeWorks QS, HomeWorks QSX, Quantum, myRoom, myRoom XC
    • Wireless systems: Caséta PRO, RadioRA 2, RadioRA 3, RA2 Select, HomeWorks QSX, myRoom, myRoom XC

    Sizes and noise

The guide below prints each drive class's size, noise and supply limits from its submittal. Lutron rates the Roller 64 by width and the other classes by fabric area per drive.

    Power

Lutron submittals 085705 and 086112 list plug-in, panel and junction box supplies. Submittal 085593 rates each configurable output at 35 V DC, 143 mA and 5 W.

    Writing it into a tender

Attach the drive submittal for the class, the power submittal, the interface submittal where needed and the control submittal. The contractor follows wiring guide 045520, the chassis guide for the mount and quick reference card 3671692.

Which Sivoia QS drive to specify

Seven drive classes, each with the case it suits and the limits Lutron prints for it. A drive class is Lutron's size group for a shade drive; the number is on your shade schedule and submittal. The source link opens the document that states them.

1 Fabric can limit the maximum width; submittal 085705 sends the reader to Lutron myProjects for the size a fabric allows.

2 Height and fabric area are not stated in submittal 085705.

3 Submittals 086112, 086106, 085267, 086107 and 086105 rate their classes by fabric area and state no width or height.

4 The number of Roller 100 panels coupled on one drive depends on fabric and panel size (086106).

    5 A Roller 300 clerestory shade takes one batten from 20 ft (6.1 m) to 25 ft (7.6 m). Two battens serve 25 ft (7.6 m) to 30 ft (9.1 m); Lutron does not recommend a side channel (085286).

6 Class 2 is the low-voltage power class, NEC Class 2, the supply must meet.

7 Noise is given in dBA, the standard sound-level unit.

    8 WIDR is Lutron's wide-shade option, a stiffer tube.

9 The QS link is Lutron's four-wire power and communication cable.

10 The hembar is the bar at the bottom of the shade fabric.

11 A clerestory is a high window band above eye level.

    Questions about Sivoia QS

Eight questions specifiers ask about Sivoia QS, answered from the Lutron submittals named in each answer.

How wide can a Sivoia QS roller shade be?

    Up to 8 ft (2.438 m) for a Roller 64, or 12 ft (3.657 m) on the WIDR chassis, per submittal 085705.

    • Roller 300: one panel to 12 ft (3.66 m) wide, 30 ft (9.1 m) tall (085286)
    • Roller 20, 100, 150, 200CW, 225: rated by fabric area
    • Fabric can limit the maximum; submittal 085705 points to Lutron myProjects

What is the difference between Roller 64 and Roller 100?

Lutron rates Roller 64 by width and Roller 100 by fabric area.

    • Roller 64 (085705): to 8 ft (2.438 m), 12 ft (3.657 m) as WIDR; 35 dBA
    • Roller 100 (086106): 100 sq ft (10 sq m) per EDU, 38 dBA

Panel submittals 085593 and 085592 state how many of each share one output, by area.

Does Sivoia QS need a power panel?

Not always: every drive needs a Lutron NEC Class 2 supply; 085705 and 086112 list single-shade supplies.

    • Plug-in QSPS-P1-1-35V and junction box QSPS-J-1-35V
    • 085593: ten outputs, 18 in (457 mm) panel, one per 15 A breaker

Two panels fit a 20 A breaker; submittal 085592 houses thirty outputs in a 59.5 in (1511 mm), 55 lb (24.9 kg) enclosure.

Can a Sivoia QS roller shade be controlled wirelessly?

Yes: submittals 085705 and 086112 offer QS Wireless, answering a Pico, a 4-Group remote or QS Wireless keypads.

    • Submittal 369847: a standalone Pico zone control runs QS Wireless shades
    • QS Wired: standalone Pico needs a QS sensor module or hybrid repeater

Submittal 085314 lists Sivoia QS wireless shades among the 4-Group remote's standalone loads, within 30 ft (9 m).

How many shades fit on one Sivoia QS link?

Up to 100 QS devices and 100 QS zones in a standalone QS configuration, per submittals 085705 and 086112.

    • Panels 085593 and 085592: 100 devices, link capped at 2000 ft (610 m)
    • One QSPS-10PNL, or one subplate with power modules, counts as one device
    • QSE-IO interface (369374): one device, five zones, three power draw units

How far can a Sivoia QS shade sit from its power supply?

Up to 250 ft (75 m) on 12 AWG (4.0 mm²) drive power cable, per submittals 085705 and 086112.

    • 16 AWG (1.5 mm²): up to 100 ft (30 m)
    • 18 AWG (1.0 mm²): up to 50 ft (17 m)
    • Panel output, one shade: 500 ft (152 m) on 12 AWG (085593, 085592)

How do Sivoia QS shades stay aligned?

Within 1/8 in (3 mm) of each other, stopped or moving, by Intelligent Hembar Alignment, per submittals 085705 and 086112.

    • White paper 3672063: closed-loop control monitors shade speed 500 times a second
    • Motor speed varies with roll-up diameter, shade height and fabric thickness
    • Coupled panels (086106, 085286): hembars leveled by the coupler hub set screws

What warranty do Sivoia QS roller shades carry?

Lutron's eight-year limited warranty for shading solutions (368-5115, rev C) names the Sivoia Shade System.

    • Drive, fabric and hardware: eight years from shipment
    • Wall controls, interfaces and accessories: one year
