    About Triathlon

Lutron's Sivoia QS Triathlon roller shades are battery-powered or wired roller shades. Lutron's RadioRA, HomeWorks and Caséta systems take them over RF.

    • Submittal 085312: Triathlon and Serena share sizes and mounting rules
    • Drive: 6 V to 12 V DC, 5 W, 2.0 in-lb torque
    • 3.6 in/sec; 0.125 in (3 mm) stops; 38 dBa at 3 ft (1 m)
    • ClearConnect RF within 30 ft (9 m); indoors at 32 °F to 104 °F (0 °C to 40 °C)
    • Brochure 3672208: battery shades for wire-free openings such as French doors

    Sizes and noise

The guide below prints each model's widths, battery counts, supply ratings and mounting depths from its submittal. Brochure 3672208 runs the roller shades as wide and as tall as 144 in (365.75 cm), with the WIDR headrail above 8 ft wide.

    Battery and wired power

Submittal 085333 runs the battery shade on six D cells to 25 15/16 in (659 mm) wide and eight from 26 in (660 mm). Where a building has 20 or more Radio Powr Savr sensors, Lutron recommends wired power.

    Writing it into a tender

A specifier attaches submittal 085312 (or 085333 for WIDR), the control submittal and, for wired shades, 085283 or 085276. The contractor follows guides 045507 (setup), 045612 (WIDR), 045949 and 045583 (architectural fascia) and 045662 (WIDR drive replacement).

    Questions about Triathlon

Eight questions specifiers ask about Triathlon roller shades, answered from the Lutron submittals named in each answer.

How wide can a Triathlon roller shade be?

Up to 108 in (2743 mm) for standard battery and wired models, per submittal 085312; cordless manual to 63 in (1600 mm).

    • WIDR (085333): 20.5 in (546 mm) to 144 in (3658 mm), inside or outside the frame
    • Brochure 3672208: shades as tall as 144 in (365.75 cm)
    • WIDR headrail serves shades greater than 8 ft wide (3672208)

What is the difference between Triathlon and Serena roller shades?

Lutron prints both on submittal 085312 with the same sizes and mounting rules, splitting only the compatible controls.

    • Serena: Pico, 4-Group RF remote, Caséta Smart Bridge or Smart Bridge Pro
    • Triathlon adds: seeTouch RF keypads, GRAFIK Eye QS, RadioRA 3, RadioRA 2, RA2 Select, HomeWorks QSX, HomeWorks QS

Pico submittal 369847 adds myRoom prime and plus for Triathlon Wireless.

    What is Triathlon WIDR?

Brochure 3672208's headrail for shades greater than 8 ft wide, with the standard shade's three top treatments. WIDR is Lutron's wide-shade option, a stiffer tube.

    • Submittal 085333: 20.5 in (546 mm) to 144 in (3658 mm) wide

Drawings 085573, 085574 and 085576 carry the WIDR battery shade with fascia; guides 045612 and 045583 cover the WIDR shade.

How many D-cell batteries does a Triathlon shade need?

Six or eight D-cells by width, per submittal 085333, with the same steps on 085312 from 19 1/2 in (495 mm).

    • Six cells: 20 1/2 in (521 mm) to 25 15/16 in (659 mm)
    • Eight cells: from 26 in (660 mm)

The thresholds, set for an outside mount without fascia, may move 1/4 in (6 mm) on other mounts.

Which control systems run Triathlon roller shades?

Submittal 085312 lists these controls; brochure 3672208 adds the Lutron app, timeclock, integration or voice assistant.

    • Pico, 4-Group RF Shade Remote Control, seeTouch RF keypads, GRAFIK Eye QS
    • RadioRA 3, RadioRA 2, RA2 Select, HomeWorks QSX, HomeWorks QS
    • Caséta Smart Bridge Pro

Submittal 085333, dated 2016, prints a shorter list without RadioRA 3, RA2 Select or HomeWorks QSX.

Can a Triathlon shade be wired instead of running on batteries?

Yes: submittals 085312 and 085333 offer a wired power model that ships with a 15 ft (4.5 m) power wire.

    • CSPS-P1-1-6-WH plug-in supply (085283): 12 V DC, 700 mA, one shade
    • CSPS-P1-10-6 panel (085276): 12 V DC, 5 A, ten 6 W outputs

Lutron recommends wired power in buildings with 20 or more Radio Powr Savr sensors.

How does a Triathlon shade keep its hembar aligned?

Submittal 085333 credits Triathlon technology with holding the hem bar in line by allowing for fabric weight and battery voltage.

    • 085312: the drive watches voltage and fabric thickness to keep speed even
    • Brochure 3672208: precision hybrid drive, low power draw plus stored energy

The 2010 white paper 3672063 explains Intelligent Hembar Alignment on Sivoia QS and Sivoia QED shades.

How deep must the window recess be for an inside mount?

At least 3.00 in (76 mm) for a standard Triathlon shade, or 3.50 in (89 mm) with fascia, per submittal 085312.

    • Above trim: specified spacer blocks clear trim up to 0.5 in (13 mm) thick
    • No spacers, standard shade: 4.5 in (114 mm) from trim top to rail top

WIDR recess and above-trim figures sit in the guide above.
