Installation walk-through for 045625

Lutron document 045625 gives eight steps, in the document's order, after the tools and fixings it lists.

The clearance, the check and the warning under a step are the document's own.

Tools

  • 1/4 in (6 mm) hex-head driver
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver
  • Tape measure
  • Power drill
  • Level

Fixings

  • Self-drilling mounting screws, supplied in each sub-bracket kit
  • Supplied screws: for solid wood structural members
  • Cable tie and anchor (in each sub-bracket kit)
  • Installer-chosen fasteners for other surfaces, able to carry the operating load
  • Spacer blocks for a wall mount where needed (not included)
  1. Prepare

Read the important notes and check the shades, with shade brackets fitted, and the sub-bracket kits.

    Check: Kits and tools present

  2. Mark the sub-bracket locations

Mark the positions level and centered over the window, where the screws reach a structural member. Leave clearance so the fabric cannot rub trim, window or top treatment.

Clearance: Tube width + 1.5 in (38 mm)

    Check: Marks level and centered

  3. Install the sub-brackets

Fix the sub-brackets at the marks with fasteners suited to the surface.

Use 4 screws per ceiling or wall sub-bracket, or 4 on a universal sub-bracket for a ceiling or wall mount. A universal sub-bracket takes 3 for a jamb mount and at least 4 for a combination mount.

Clearance: 4 screws ceiling or wall, 3 jamb, at least 4 combination

Check: Fasteners carry the operating load

Warning: Supplied screws suit solid wood structural members; the universal sub-bracket mounts only in the orientation shown

  4. Plan the cable entry

Bring the cable out on the drive side with 12 to 18 in (30 to 45 cm) exposed. Choose an entry point that does not clash with the sub-bracket.

    Clearance: 12 to 18 in (30 to 45 cm)

Check: Cable cannot touch the moving fabric

  5. Hang the shade

With one person at each end, hook the shade brackets into the sub-brackets. On a ceiling mount the top tab goes into the rear hook and the front over the front hook.

On a wall or universal mount, tilt the shade onto the upper tab and swing down onto the lower tab. Center the shade and fully tighten each securing screw with a hand screwdriver.

Check: Each bracket passes a careful tug

Warning: Two people, one supporting each end. 2 ladders or lifts may be needed where the sub-brackets cannot be reached from the floor.

  6. Level the shade

Lay a bubble level along the fabric roll and turn the idler adjusting screw. Clockwise lowers the idler end, counter-clockwise raises it.

    Check: Fabric roll level

  7. Wire and power up

Wire the shade and set limits from P/N 045520. Run the shade up and down several times and fix any interference.

    Check: Full travel without interference

  8. Care and maintenance

No mechanical upkeep is needed. Adjustments and repairs go to the original provider and qualified personnel; dust the fabric in place.
