Installation walk-through for 045626

Lutron document 045626 gives ten steps, in the document's order, after the tools and fixings it lists.

The clearance, the check and the warning under a step are the document's own.

Tools

  • 1/4 in (6 mm) hex-head driver
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver
  • Level
  • Tape measure
  • Power drill

Fixings

  • Self-drilling mounting screws (supplied, for solid wood)
  • Cable tie and anchor (supplied)
  • Top back cover fasteners in pairs, appropriate for the wall or ceiling
  • Installer-chosen fasteners for other surfaces, able to carry the operating load
  • Spacer blocks for a wall mount where needed (not included)
  1. Prepare

Read the important notes and check the shades, sub-brackets, screws, fascia and any top back cover.

    Check: Parts and tools present

  2. Mount the optional top back cover

Fix the cover inside or above the opening with fastener pairs into the wall or ceiling. Pre-drill where possible, do not over-tighten, and shim the cover true.

Clearance: 1 pair per 36 in (914 mm) of width; screws at least 3 in (76 mm) from the cover ends

Check: Cover level, straight and untwisted

Warning: Screws too near the cover ends foul the shade brackets

  3. Mark the sub-bracket locations

Mark the sub-brackets on the surface or top back cover, level and centered over the window. Put them over structure, with clearance for the fabric.

Clearance: Tube width + 1.5 in (38 mm)

    Check: Marks level and centered

  4. Plan the cable entry

Bring the cable out on the drive side through the sub-bracket's ceiling or jamb clearance holes. Or bring it out beside or below the sub-bracket, without clashing with it.

Clearance: 12 to 18 in (300 to 450 mm) exposed

Check: Cable cannot touch the moving fabric

  5. Install the sub-brackets

Fix each sub-bracket at its marks with 4 screws. Drive them through the rear for a wall mount, or through the top for a ceiling or jamb mount.

    Clearance: 4 screws per sub-bracket

Check: Fasteners suit the surface and load

Warning: Supplied screws suit solid wood only

  6. Hang the shade

With one person at each end, insert the bracket tabs into the rear hangers. Lift the front so the front hooks ride over the front hangers.

Center the shade and tighten each securing screw with the Phillips screwdriver.

Check: Each end passes a careful tug

  7. Level the shade

Check the fabric roll with a bubble level; turn the idler adjusting screw clockwise to lower or counter-clockwise to raise.

    Check: Fabric roll level

  8. Wire and power up

Wire the shade and set limits from P/N 045520. Run it up and down several times and fix any interference.

    Check: Full travel without interference

  9. Mount the fascia

Hook the fascia's top lip on the upper hooks and check full engagement. Swing the bottom under the shade and snap the triangular lip behind the lower tabs.

Center the fascia and run the shade to both limits several times.

Check: Fabric touches neither fascia nor anything else

Warning: The upper limit must keep the bottom bar out of the sub-brackets

  10. Care and maintenance

No mechanical upkeep is needed. Adjustments and repairs go to the original provider and qualified personnel; dust the fabric in place.
