Installation walk-through for 045658

Lutron document 045658 gives 13 steps, in the document's order, after the tools and fixings it lists.

The clearance, the check and the warning under a step are the document's own.

Tools

  • Palladiom wall, ceiling or jamb mount template
  • 3/4 in (19 mm) Forstner bit, recommended
  • Tape measure

Fixings

  • Wire housing, 3/4 in (19 mm) x 3 in (76 mm)
  • #10 mounting screws provided with the shade, in 1/8 in (3 mm) pilot holes
  1. Position the template and mark the wire housing

Early in construction, set the template at the window opening; the guide shows the wall mount version. Use its gauges to find the wire housing location and mark it.

Check: Wire housing location marked for drilling

  2. Drill for the wire housing

Drill at the marked location for the wire housing, with the 3/4 in (19 mm) Forstner bit Lutron recommends.

    Clearance: Wire housing 3/4 in (19 mm) x 3 in (76 mm)

  3. Fit the wire housing and pull the cable

Install the wire housing and pull the power or QS Link cable through it, ready for the bracket later.

Check: Cable pulled through the installed housing

  4. Mark the bracket screws on the finished wall

When the wall is finished, put the template back in place and mark the bracket mounting screw locations.

Clearance: Pilot holes 1/8 in (3 mm) for the #10 mounting screws provided with the shade

    Check: Screw locations marked

  5. Mount the bracket over the housing

As the bracket goes on, the shade wire harness runs through it and joins the power or QS Link cable. The joined cables are pushed into the wire housing so the bracket hides all of the wiring.

Check: No wiring visible around the bracket

  6. Wall mount: set left and right position

Hold the template against the mounting surface. To place the bracket from a chosen fabric edge, line up the fabric edge locator A.

To find the fabric edge from a chosen bracket position, line up the bracket footprint B. Either way, set the jamb offset with gauge C and tighten thumbscrews D.

Check: Jamb offset thumbscrews D tight

  7. Wall mount: set the bracket height

Keeping the template in place, set the bracket footprint B at the height wanted on the wall. Bring the height gauge E round until its stops F rest on the window opening top, then tighten thumbscrews G.

Check: Stops F on the top of the window opening; thumbscrews G tight

  8. Preset the gauges and check the tape measure

To work from set measurements, preset the gauges with the tape measure anchoring slot. The slot sits at the bracket center, H on the wall mount template.

Check the tape against the notches at the template edge, exactly 10 in (254 mm) apart edge to edge. The ceiling and jamb templates carry the same anchor and notches.

Clearance: 10 in (254 mm) between matching notch edges

Check: Tape reads 10 in (254 mm) across the notches

  9. Ceiling mount: set left and right position

Hold the ceiling mount template against the mounting surface.

Line up the fabric edge locator A when the fabric edge is fixed. Line up the bracket footprint B instead when the bracket position is fixed.

  10. Ceiling mount: set the wall distance

With the template still in place, set the bracket footprint B at the distance wanted from the wall. Set that distance on the bracket/wall gauge C and tighten thumbscrews D.

    Check: Thumbscrews D tight

  11. Jamb mount: set the bracket height

Hold the jamb mount template against the mounting surface. Use the bracket height gauge B to set the distance to the window opening top, then tighten thumbscrews C.

    Check: Thumbscrews C tight

  12. Jamb mount: set the bracket depth

With the template against the surface, use the window distance gauge D to set the distance to the glass. Tighten thumbscrews E.

    Check: Thumbscrews E tight

  13. Jamb mount: transfer to the opposite jamb

Carry the same height and depth settings across to the opposite jamb so both brackets match.

Check: Both jambs marked from the same settings

Requirements Lutron states in 045658

What the guide requires for a Palladiom shade before and during installation:

Wire housing
3/4 in (19 mm) by 3 in (76 mm), with a 3/4 in (19 mm) Forstner bit recommended
Bracket pilot holes
1/8 in (3 mm) when using the #10 mounting screws supplied with the shade
When the template is used
Twice: early in construction for the wire housing hole, then on the finished wall for the bracket screw locations
Cable concealment
The bracket hides all wiring
  • The shade wire harness passes through the bracket
  • The harness connects to the power or QS Link cable
  • The joined cables tuck into the wire housing
Tape measure check
Notches at the top edge of each template sit exactly 10 in (254 mm) apart, edge to edge, to check the tape before marking
Wall mount template gauges
  • Fabric edge locator
  • Bracket footprint
  • Jamb offset gauge
  • Height gauge, with stops resting on the top of the window opening
Ceiling mount template gauges
  • Fabric edge locator
  • Bracket footprint
  • Bracket-to-wall gauge, setting the bracket distance from the wall
Jamb mount template gauges
  • Bracket height gauge to the top of the window opening
  • Window distance gauge to the glass
  • Settings then transferred to the opposite jamb
Purpose of the guide
A reference for the three templates that supplements Lutron's Palladiom Shades training program
Presetting the gauges
For set measurements, the gauges preset with the tape measure anchoring slot at each template's bracket center
Overview sequence
Shown on the wall mount
  • Template at the window opening to mark the wire housing
  • Location drilled, housing installed, cable pulled
  • Template re-applied on the finished wall for the screws
  • Bracket fitted with the cables tucked into the housing

Questions about document 045658

The answers come from Lutron document 045658 and New Way's record of it.

What is Lutron document 045658?

Rev A, dated July 2018, is the revision Lutron publishes. New Way checked it against assets.lutron.com on 15 October 2026.

Which roller shades does 045658 cover?

Lutron Palladiom roller shades.

What size is the Palladiom wire housing, and which bit is recommended?

Lutron document 045658 gives the wire housing as 3/4 in (19 mm) x 3 in (76 mm). Lutron recommends a 3/4 in (19 mm) Forstner bit.

Does the guide cover ceiling and jamb mounts too?

Lutron document 045658 covers all three Palladiom templates: Wall Mount, Ceiling Mount and Jamb Mount. Lutron gives each template its own lettered gauges and steps, with the wall mount used for the overview sequence.

What pilot hole do the Palladiom bracket screws take?

Lutron document 045658 states a 1/8 in (3 mm) pilot hole when the #10 mounting screws supplied with the shade are used.

How does the jamb mount template set the bracket position?

Lutron document 045658 sets the bracket height gauge to the top of the window opening.

The window distance gauge then sets the distance to the glass. Once both thumbscrews are tight, the same settings transfer to the opposite jamb.

At what stage of construction are the Palladiom templates used?

Lutron document 045658 says the templates mark the wire box hole in the early phases of construction.

The bracket conceals the cable later. The template goes on again, on the finished wall, to mark the bracket screw locations.
