Installation walk-through for 045477

Lutron document 045477 gives eight steps, in the document's order, after the tools and fixings it lists.

The clearance, the check and the warning under a step are the document's own.

Tools

  • Pencil
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver
  • Tape measure
  • Level

Fixings

  • Headrail locks, 2 to 5 by blind width (provided)
  • Headrail valance clips, 2 to 5 by blind width (provided)
  • Screws, 2 per valance clip, 4 to 10 by blind width (provided)
  • Mounting clips factory-installed on the back of the valance
  1. Check the tools and box contents

Gather the pencil, #2 Phillips screwdriver, tape measure and level. Confirm the box holds the valance, with returns for an outside mount or without returns for an inside mount.

Count the headrail locks, screws and headrail valance clips against the width table for the blind.

Check: Lock, screw and clip counts match the width table for the blind width

  2. Mark the mounting bracket locations

Locate and install the blind mounting brackets at the window, following the instructions supplied with the blind.

Hold the blind up to the installed brackets close to its final position. Pencil a mark on the headrail at each bracket.

Check: Every bracket position is marked on the headrail

Warning: Do not place the blind in its brackets yet. A blind already hung comes down so the locks and clips can go on.

  3. Mark the headrail valance clip locations

Use the mounting clips factory-fitted to the back of the valance as a guide. Mark each headrail valance clip position on the headrail.

Where a clip position clashes with a blind mounting bracket, the bracket keeps its place. Move that lock and clip sideways to a clear spot, then shift the matching mounting clip on the valance.

Check: No clip position sits on a bracket or another headrail component

  4. Insert the headrail locks

At each marked position, as the guide's step 2B directs, insert a headrail lock into the headrail's upper channel. Press down firmly if needed so it engages.

Turn the lock counter-clockwise to set it for the clip.

Check: Each lock sits as the section view shows; a slightly loose lock is acceptable at this stage

  5. Attach the headrail valance clips

At each lock, lower a valance clip so it straddles the headrail, front and back. Let it rest flush on top of the lock, then fix it with the 2 screws provided.

Check: Grip each clip at the top and pull upward. If it comes off, remove its screws and repeat steps 4 and 5.

  6. Complete the blind installation

Hang and wire the blind to the instructions supplied with it. Check that it operates correctly and finish all programming before the valance goes on.

Check: Blind operates correctly and programming is complete

  7. Attach the valance

Line up the clips on the back of the valance with the clips on the headrail. Raise the valance in front of the headrail so the two sets of clips engage.

Push each valance lip upward until the bottom lock of every headrail valance clip clicks.

Check: An audible click at every clip

Warning: On a blind or valance wider than 48 in (1219 mm), Lutron recommends a second person

  8. Level the valance

Use the ratcheting feature of the clips to level the valance and set its final position.

Check: Valance level along its length

Other warnings Lutron prints in 045477
  • Caution, risk of falling objects: follow the mounting instructions
  • A component not mounted securely could cause minor or moderate injury

Loose lock
A lock may sit loosely before its clip is screwed down, provided it sits as the section view shows

Hang and wire the blind to its own instructions, check its operation and finish all programming first
Fitting the valance
