- 2 pull-chain stops (supplied)
- Top back cover fasteners in pairs, installer's choice for the surface
- Bracket fasteners for the surface, installer's choice
- Each bracket to support 200 lbs (90.1 kg)
Check the parts and read the notes
Lutron lists the shade assembly with its pre-installed tension device, 2 brackets, 6 mounting screws and 2 pull-chain stops. The box adds two pairs of tension device screws, the fascia and 3 securing screws with caps.
The top back cover and 2 endcaps are optional extras. Plan clearance from trim, hardware, cranks, lock levers and drapery, and check the mounting surface is level and sound.
A shade wider than 48 in (1219 mm) takes two installers.
Check: All parts present; mounting surface level and free of irregularities
Warning: Risk of falling objects: every bracket must be able to carry 200 lbs (90.1 kg) on blocking or structure
Fit the top back cover, if ordered
Position the cover inside or above the window opening. Pre-drill, then fix it with fasteners in pairs into the ceiling, window frame or wall, one pair for every 36 in (914 mm) of width.
Keep the screws at least 3 in (76 mm) from the cover ends so they miss the shade brackets. Do not over-tighten.
Use the level to confirm the cover is level, straight and untwisted, and shim where it is not.
Clearance: Fastener pairs at most 36 in (914 mm) apart; screws at least 3 in (76 mm) from the cover ends
Check: Cover level, straight and untwisted
Warning: Bracket screws set in the cover must pass through it into blocking or other suitable structure. The cover alone will not carry the shade.
Mark the bracket positions
Take the bracket-to-bracket width from the original order or from the label on the shipping box. Mark its two ends on the wall, ceiling or top back cover, centered on the window opening.
Clearance: Bracket-to-bracket width held to ± 1/16 in (1.6 mm)
Check: Marks centered on the opening and the right distance apart
Mount the clutch and idler brackets
Mount on the wall, jamb or ceiling, or in the pocket, as the order intended. Line the clutch bracket's outer edge up with its mark and pencil the center of its 2 mounting holes.
Drill pilot holes if you wish and fasten it. Repeat at the other mark for the idler bracket, then re-measure the bracket distance and check they sit level.
A jamb mount may need shims to reach the right distance.
Check: Bracket-to-bracket distance correct; brackets level with each other so the clutch and idler supports are level
Warning: Never hang the shade in brackets that are deformed, damaged or badly mounted
Hang the clutch end
Line the clutch center hole up with the clutch support tab on the clutch bracket. The tab edges enter between the splines inside the hole.
Push the shade onto the tab as far as it will go.
Check: Clutch fully home on the support tab
Hang the idler end
Line the idler pin up with the slot in the idler support. Lower the idler end of the shade until the pin rests fully in the slot.
Clearance: Pin overhang through the slot at least 1/16 in (1.6 mm); side-to-side play no more than 1/8 in (3 mm)
Check: Pin seated and protruding; play within the limit
Set the upper limit
Raise the shade with the pull-chain to the fully-raised position you want.
Fit a pull-chain stop on the first bead fully visible below the clutch chain guide. Use the side of the loop nearer the fabric drop and crimp it firmly round the bead with the pliers.
Check: Bottom bar stays below the dotted line in the drawing and cannot be drawn up into the brackets
Set the lower limit
Lower the shade to the fully-lowered position you want. Fit the second stop on the first bead fully exposed below the chain guide.
Use the side of the loop farther from the fabric and crimp it.
Check: Shade stops at the chosen bottom position
Mount the pull-chain tension device
Let the chain hang straight down and pick a spot at the lowest point of the final chain loop. The spot, on a wall, mullion, sill or floor, must be within reach of a person of typical height.
Pull the device down to raise its plunger and mark a line under it.
Mount the device or its bracket so its bottom edge meets the line. Longer screws go into the surface; shorter ones only join the device to its bracket.
Check: Device at the lowest point of the loop; chain held in tension
Warning: Window blind cords can strangle a child: keep cords out of reach and move cribs and furniture away. Fix the device to the wall or floor with anchors that suit the surface, as the supplied fasteners may not.
Verify operation
Run the shade to its upper limit and down to its lower limit several times and watch it. Confirm the brackets hold firm under the operating load and the chain runs smoothly through the tension device and clutch.
Confirm the fabric rolls up and down without touching anything. Some telescoping is normal; a lot of it points to a shade that is not level.
Check: Brackets secure; chain smooth; fabric free; telescoping slight
Attach the fascia
Hold the fascia with its notched end at the clutch end for the chain. Hook the top lip over the brackets' upper hooks, under the top back cover's front edge where fitted.
Swing the bottom down and under the shade and snap the triangular lip behind the lower tabs. Center the fascia with the chain hanging freely through the notch.
Run the shade to both limits. Fit 2 securing screws from below, one at each end, and cap each head.
Check: Fabric does not touch the fascia or anything else at either limit; chain free in the notch
Warning: The notched end must engage the clutch bracket, since the idler bracket cannot hold it securely
Fit the optional endcaps
Hold an endcap with its arrow pointing at the lower-front corner of the fascia. Push its 4 locating pins into the matching holes in the shade bracket.
Press until it sits fully against the bracket, then repeat at the other end.
Check: Endcap seated flat against the bracket
Count the top back cover fastener pairs from 045973
Lutron document 045973 spaces the fastener pairs along the top back cover: one at each end, at least 3 in (76 mm) in from the end. The rest sit at most 36 in (914 mm) apart.
Enter the top back cover width to count the fastener pairs along the top back cover.

Questions about document 045973
The answers come from Lutron document 045973 and New Way's record of it.
What is Lutron document 045973?
Lutron's eight-page guide: two English pages repeated in French, Spanish and Portuguese, with no wiring, torque values or pocket dimensions.
Which revision of 045973 is current?
Rev A, dated April 2024, is the revision Lutron publishes. New Way checked it against assets.lutron.com on 15 October 2026.
Which roller shades does 045973 cover?
Lutron Sivoia QS roller shades.
What load must each bracket carry?
200 lbs (90.1 kg) per shade bracket, per Lutron document 045973, with fasteners chosen by the installer for the surface.
In a top back cover, the bracket screws must pass through the cover into blocking or other suitable structural material. The cover alone will not support the shade.
How is the top back cover fixed?
In pairs into the ceiling, window frame or wall, one pair per 36 in (914 mm) of width, per Lutron document 045973.
- At least 3 in (76 mm) from the cover ends, clearing the shade brackets
- Screws not over-tightened
- Cover level, straight and untwisted
How are the upper and lower limits set?
With crimped pull-chain stops on the first bead fully visible below the clutch chain guide, per Lutron document 045973.
- Upper limit: fully raised, stop on the side nearer the fabric drop
- Lower limit: fully lowered, stop on the side farther from the fabric
- The upper limit must leave the bottom bar below the brackets
How is the fascia secured once hooked on?
Swing the bottom down and under the shade, snapping the triangular lip behind the lower tabs, per Lutron document 045973.
Center the fascia with the chain hanging freely through the notch and run the shade to both limits. Then fit 2 securing screws from below with a cap pressed over each head; the 3rd screw is a spare.
Which way round does the fascia go?
Notched end at the clutch end, per Lutron document 045973, so the pull-chain can hang through the notch. The notched end has to engage the clutch bracket, because it cannot be fastened securely at the idler bracket.
