Installation walk-through for 045959
Lutron document 045959 gives 13 steps, in the document's order, after the tools and fixings it lists.
The clearance, the check and the warning under a step are the document's own.
Tools
- Pencil
- Tape measure
- Level
- Power drill
- 3/16 in (4.8 mm) drill bit
- 1/4 in (6 mm) hex driver bit
- 6 in extension, recommended
Fixings
- Mounting screws, supplied, same quantity as brackets (shade without fascia)
- Spacers, supplied only for outside mount above trim
- Expansion anchors, toggle bolts or other fasteners, not supplied
- Needed on surfaces other than studs or solid trim
- Mounting screws, supplied, quantity varies with shade size (fascia shade)
- Rail fasteners suit the mounting surface and drive into solid material
- Blocking added where the screws would not reach solid material
Choose the method and check the box
Lutron sends a shade without fascia with its brackets and the same number of mounting screws; follow section A. A shade with fascia comes with the mounting rail and bracket locks factory-fitted, screws and a fabric-wrapped or architectural fascia.
Spacers come only where outside mount above trim is specified; skip to section B. When the job replaces an existing shade with fascia, read the replacement notes in step 13 first.
Check: Parts match the shade type; the tools listed are on hand
Warning: Risk of falling objects: read and follow every mounting instruction
Without fascia: fix the brackets
Hold the shade up to the surface, judge its final position and pencil the screw holes. Place a bracket 5 to 7 in (127 to 178 mm) in from each shade end, screwed into studs or solid trim.
Use anchors or toggle bolts on other surfaces, and space any extra brackets equally between the outer two. Turn the release tab toward the room for an inside mount and downward for an outside mount.
Clearance: Brackets 5 to 7 in (127 to 178 mm) from each shade end
Check: Brackets hold the shade level, centered on and parallel to the opening
Without fascia: clip the shade on
Hook the lip of the shade bar over the brackets. Swing the other side of the bar into them until each bracket locks with a click.
Then go to section C to connect power.
Check: A click heard at every bracket
With fascia: take the rail off the shade
Slide both bracket locks away from the rail ends. Keep the shade well supported and push down the release tab on each end bracket until the shade comes free.
Check: Rail free of the shade; shade supported throughout
With fascia: mark and pre-drill the rail
Hold the rail up to its final position and confirm there is clearance A at both ends. Plan screws that drive into solid material, adding blocking if needed.
Mark a screw 3 to 5 in (76 to 127 mm) from each rail end. On a shade wider than 48 in (1219 mm) mark two more between them, at least 10 in (254 mm) apart.
Pre-drill the rail at the marks.
Clearance: Clearance A of 1/4 in (6 mm) at both rail ends; screws at least 10 in (254 mm) apart
Check: Fasteners suit the mounting surface
With fascia: fasten the rail
Fix the rail with fasteners suited to the surface so it sits level, centered on and parallel to the window. On trim, line the top of the rail up with the top edge of the trim.
Above trim, use the spacers to gain clearance; a small shade or shallow trim may go up without them.
Check: Rail level, centered and parallel to the window
Warning: Mounting rails wider than 48 in (1219 mm) need two people
With fascia: prepare the shade
Lay the shade on a clean, level surface. Lift the fascia up and away from the bottom, take out all the foam inserts and set the fascia aside.
Slide the support bracket marked L fully to the left end and the one marked R to the right end. On a wider shade, space up to 3 center brackets marked C evenly, moving them to miss the rail screws.
Check: End brackets hard against the shade ends; center brackets clear of the rail screws
With fascia: hang and lock the shade
Rest the heel of each support bracket on the lower shelf of the rail. Rotate the shade up and back into the rail until every support bracket locks with a click at each end.
Check: Every support bracket engaged with a click
Warning: Attach the shade as shown and confirm secure engagement, or the shade can fall
With fascia: engage the bracket locks
Slide the left bracket lock fully to the left end of the rail until it clicks lightly. Then slide the right lock fully to the right end; the locks hold the end support brackets to the rail.
Check: Both locks at the rail ends with a light click
With fascia: fit the fascia
For an architectural fascia, fit the endcaps first from the guide packed with them. Seat the flange of the fascia support rail in the upper slots of the support brackets.
Press firmly until the fascia locks with a click.
Check: Fascia locked in with an audible click
All shades: connect power
Route the shade power wire clear of the shade and secure it where it cannot foul the fabric. Connect the individual plug-in supply to the wire and plug it into a compatible outlet.
For the 10-output power panel CSPS-P1-10-6, follow the guide supplied with the panel instead.
Check: Shade button LED flashes red and green 3 times at power-up
Warning: Use power supply cable rated CLS2X or better
All shades: set up and program
Turn to the separate sheet packed with the shade. Lutron puts remote control assignment, adding the shade to a system, limit adjustment and the favorite position on that sheet.
Removing or replacing a shade with fascia
Raise the shade fully, take off the fascia and disconnect the power supply. Slide the bracket locks away from the rail ends and support the shade.
Press the release tab on top of each support bracket, keeping the fabric from unrolling. To refit, repeat steps 7 to 10.
When replacing an older shade, take down the old rail and fit the rail supplied with the new shade.
Check: Fabric kept rolled and undamaged
Warning: An old mounting rail may not fit the new support brackets
