Installation walk-through for 045662

Lutron document 045662 gives 14 steps, in the document's order, after the tools and fixings it lists.

The clearance, the check and the warning under a step are the document's own.

Tools

  • 90° T15 (Torx) driver

Fixings

  • Battery tray screws and washers, saved and refitted
  • Spring and spacer, where fitted, saved and refitted
  • New in-line fuse (supplied)
  • Tape from the old fuse, saved and re-applied
  1. Check the parts and identify the shade

Confirm the box holds the replacement EDU and a new in-line fuse, and have a 90° T15 driver ready. The order and line numbers on the new calibration label show which shade takes this EDU.

Check: The order and line numbers on the label match the shade.

Warning: Do not stick the calibration label on the EDU housing; it can rub inside the tube in use.

  2. Open the battery tray and disconnect the EDU

With the shade at its open limit, lay it on a flat work surface and open the battery tray. Peel off the tape and keep it, then disconnect the EDU and take out the old in-line fuse.

Check: The shade was at its open limit before work began.

  3. Take out the battery tray screws

Remove the battery tray screws with the T15 driver and keep the screws and washers. A spring and spacer, where fitted, come out the same way and are kept.

  4. Tilt the bracket out of the tray

Tilt the bracket out of the battery tray and ease the wires out with care.

  5. Pull the bracket and old EDU out

Draw the bracket and the old EDU out of the tube together. The interference fit takes around 5 to 10 lbs of pull.

  6. Check the far end of the shade

Look at the opposite end of the shade. The tube there may hold a spring assist and must stay engaged with its bracket.

Check: The far end of the tube is still engaged with its bracket.

Warning: Keep the opposite end of the tube engaged with its bracket after the drive-end bracket comes off.

  7. Fit the new EDU in the bracket

Hook the EDU end into the bracket and snap it home. Run the black and red power wires through the metal hooks.

Press the white antenna wire into its channel at the six teeth.

Check: The antenna wire is held at all six teeth.

  8. Start the EDU in the tube

Lay the EDU and bracket flat. Line up the EDU puck grooves with the splines inside the tube and push the EDU partly in.

Check: The EDU is started but not yet fully home.

  9. Route the wires through the tray

Lead the EDU wires out through the top slot of the battery tray.

  10. Seat the EDU fully

Line up the bearing sleeve grooves with the teeth inside the tube. Compress the shade until the idler seats, again with around 5 to 10 lbs of force.

Check: The idler is fully seated.

  11. Refit the battery tray screws

Refit the washers and screws with the T15 driver. With a spring and spacer, drive the bottom screw first.

Then turn the spring and spacer to line up the top screw.

  12. Reconnect the battery box with the new fuse

Connect the supplied new in-line fuse between the EDU and the battery box and tape over it again. Return the old EDU to Lutron as Customer Service or Technical Support directs.

Check: The new fuse, not the old one, is in circuit and taped.

  13. Rehang the shade in the mounting rail

Lutron document 045662 pictures three moves. Rest the inner part of each end bracket, bottom first, on the lower shelf of the mounted rail.

Push the top of the shade into the rail until each bracket clicks. Tilt each bracket upright and hand-tighten its screw into the rail channel.

Check: A click is heard at each end bracket.

  14. Re-associate controls and set both limits

Re-associate the controls, then set the upper and lower limits before normal use. Lutron document 045662 prints no button sequence for this step.

Check: The shade opens and closes in the right direction between the new limits.

Warning: A replacement EDU has no limits set, so the shade may move the wrong way until the limits are set.

Other warnings Lutron prints in 045662
  • Keep the far tube end engaged with its bracket, which may hold a spring assist
  • Never fix the calibration label to the EDU housing.
  • Set both limits before normal use: a replacement EDU ships without them

Interference fit force
Around 5 to 10 lbs, pulling the old EDU out and seating the new one, no metric value printed
Opposite end
The far end of the tube, which may hold a spring assist, stays engaged with its bracket
